Natural Loofah

We've been working on sourcing domestically grown loofahs for almost a year and we've finally got a handful of small and micro growers! Loofahs are a gourd plant that makes this lovely scrubby inside when it is mature and dried. Ours is a 6" cut of natural loofah strung on cotton twine or rope. 

Loofahs are kind of like a big cucumber that grows a sponge inside. The loofahs are cleaned after harvesting, which includes peeling the skin and rinsing the remaining cucumber-y stuff thoroughly. Some seeds shake out at this point, and a LOT more shake out once it's cut. You may notice some dried vegetable film inside your loofah when you get it.
